Dear Parents/ Guardian,

We hope you had a meaningful June break.  We are happy to start Semester 2!   Here are some updates on our programmes and achievements.

1. Update on Achievements
Our Marists have performed exceptionally well since the start of the year. Here are some of the achievements thus far (more details in the school website):

A.  Uniformed Group:
NCC (Sea)

- Gold Award for Best Unit Competition 2013, 12th Consecutive Gold
- Best Unit Competition 2013 - Best Sea Unit Award (5th Best Sea Unit Award)
- CM Philips Award for 10 consecutive years of Gold Award (2004 - 2013)
- NCC Outstanding Cadet Award 2013
- NCC Senior Specialist Course 2014 Company Best Award
- NCC Senior Specialist Course 2014 Best Arms Drills Award
- 10 cadets represented the unit and successfully completed the NCC Annual 4D3N Kayaking Expedition

St John Ambulance Brigade
- Gold Award for Corps Achievement Award 2013, 10th Consecutive Gold
- Zone 10 First Aid Competition Ambulance Adult Team: Champion
- Zone 10 First Aid Competition Ambulance Cadet Team: 2nd Runner Up

- 4th National Inter-School Archery Championship

- Inter-School National Scrabble Competition ‘B’ Division
    Bowl 2 Category- Champions

Lion Dance Society

Congratulations to all Marists and teachers. We also like to thank parents/guardian for their tremendous support.  I have also spoken to the Marists about upholding the tradition of excellence.

2. Events & Activities for Term 3
The calendar of events for Term 3 is attached in this letter for your reference. Highlights for Term 3 include:

a.    O Level Oral Exams (EL and CL) for Sec 4
b.    Marist Youth Day Celebrations
c.    Marist Ironkid Biathlon
d.    Teachers Day Celebrations

3. Founders’ Day.
Our 56th Founders’ Day will be held on Friday, 1 August 2014.  Our Guest of Honour will be Bro Robert Teoh, the Marist Provincial.   Founders’ Day is the time to commemorate the efforts of our Founding Principal Bro Chanel Soon.  It also celebrates the many achievements of our students.  This year’s theme is Celebrating the Inspirational Marist.

4. Examination Matters.
Common Test 2 will start on 18 August and Prelim 2 will start on 27 August.  Students have been advised to be disciplined and adopt good study habits in preparation for these examinations.

5. Measures for Haze
As we welcome Marists back to school for Term 3, our priority is to ensure that our students and staff are safe and healthy.  We have set in place the necessary precautions and continuity plans to minimize disruptions to school activities, even as we ensure the well-being of Marists and staff.
